As many of you in the entertainment business know, it's a hard business to be in and no matter what, you've always got to be on the look out for all things good and bad. So we here at CYNDILAND just want to give our thoughts on things to start out the 2012 season.
For some that are new to the entertainment business there are things that you need to be aware of and things that you should always keep in mind. Even for those that have been in the entertainment business for a while, some still get tricked into things so always beware. It's just easier for the bad guys to target the newbies because they know they are really hungry and will almost believe anything they hear.
As we've always been told, if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is....well yes this is such a true thing to live by. Never ever believe what you hear and always keep your guard up. People and business's will always tell you what you want to hear and if they think you are an easy target, they will play you like a fiddle.
Another good thing to remember is beware of those over night companies that claim they are an established company in the entertainment world and have all kinds of management experience with people of all areas such as acting, music, radio, magazines even athletes, the list goes on. Just because a person has bumped elbows with famous people through out the years and has a college degree, doesn't make them a legit business or business person. I can bump elbows with famous people and have pictures taken all day long and tell you I can get you in the business and here's what it's going to cost. Just because I showed you pictures of me with famous people and have all kinds of degrees and contracts printed in pretty frames doesn't make me a manager.
Photoshop can do a lot for people and we see it every day. Even people that you may know that you might look up to can do the same thing. Never trust anyone and always check in behind what people tell you. Never take anyone's word, go out and do your research and find out from others who are in the entertainment world. Trust me, in the indie world people know who people are and they come in all shapes and sizes. Any legit person in the indie business will tell you if they've worked with that person/company or if they haven't. They'll let you know if you need to be aware of them or not. So don't ever be afraid to ask about a company or a person. Doing your research is a big thing in the indie world. No one's going to do it for you but if you go out and start asking around then people will step up and help. There are still great people in the indie world and they aren't all bad.
We here at CYNDILAND just want to help those who are new and some that are veterans in the indie bizz to know that things may not always appear to be what it looks like. So keep your eyes open and trust your gut instincts and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. Stay positive and focused and keep working at it and don't ever give up!!!!
